'Wanderlust'

'Movement itself is an essential part of who we are and how we live, and is an important element in terms of health and mental stability. In other words, we cannot understand our daily life without movement'

This project was developed during the months-lasting quarantine period in 2020, as a result of the Covid-19 global health crisis. It arose from the inherent human need to explore the world and pursue a feeling of fulfilment and freedom, opposite to the scene of confinement in those small isolated areas we have called ‘home’. Unquestionably, they are warm and comfortable, but also lack landscape, nature, fresh air and natural light.

According to the standard definition, ‘Wanderlust’ stands for the strong desire to travel, understood as a human need to change context. It may also reflect an intense urge for self-development by experiencing the unknown, confronting unforeseen challenges, getting to know unfamiliar cultures, ways of life and behaviours or it may even be driven by the desire to escape and leave behind depressing feelings.

The term ‘Wanderlust’ originates from the German words ‘wandern’ and ‘Lust’. Although it is commonly misused as ‘to wander’, the term ‘wandern’ means ‘to hike’; whereas ‘Lust’ combines both the concept of ‘enjoyment’ and ‘pleasure’ of doing something. Placing both words together, the translation would be ‘enjoyment of hiking’,

Movement itself is an essential part of who we are and how we live, and is an important element in terms of health and mental stability. In other words, we cannot understand our daily life without movement.

During quarantine, the Internet became our only window to the outer world, and mapping applications, our only way to travel the world without leaving home. Therefore, satellite photographs and 3D mapping renderings have been key for me to get closer to the landscape again. And so, working by layers on them, I have tried to praise and capture the landscape by means of digital drawing.

The titles are the coordinates of actual locations, which can be viewed online by entering them into mapping applications, such as Google Earth, Google Maps or Apple Maps.
